Dublin café known for outrage marketing successfully attracts backlash for latest stunt
An Irish café is coming under fire for an intentionally controversial post advertising job vacancies.
The post lamented how “difficult” it is to hire staff, asking “why would anyone want to work in this industry when they can get a sizeable Pandemic Unemployment Payment for sitting on their hole?”
The inflammatory post continued by telling interested workers to “get up off their arse” and submit a CV.
In Ireland, the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) is “social welfare payment for employees and self-employed people who have lost all their employment due to the COVID-19 public health emergency”. Alongside the PUP, a Government scheme called the COVID-19 Wage Subsidy Scheme was put in place. This scheme allows businesses who have reported a 25% drop in income to “claim a percentage of (their) employees net wage back”.
